Kelantan UMNO to resolve issue of BN members not appointed as candidates

KOTA BHARU, April 1 (Bernama) -- Chairman of the Kelantan UMNO Liaison Body Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed is optimistic that it will be able to resolve the issue of Barisan Nasional (BN) members in the state who are disappointed at not being made candidates in the coming 14th General Election (GE14).

He said this was actually a common occurrence and also happens at the highest levels during every election.

"What is important is that we as UMNO members must accept whatever decision is made by the party's top leadership and must obey that decision.

"We hope all members abide by the decision made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who is the party president," he told reporters at a function here today.

Yesterday, Mustapa said the list of Kelantan Barisan Nasional candidates for GE14 was almost completed and the selected people had been screened by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

He added that it would be submitted to the party's top leadership soon.

"In the process of selection, only one person out of the five who have been nominated will be chosen, and the other four will of course be disappointed, but Kelantan UMNO has a way of dealing with their disappointment," he said.

Mustapa said he hoped all parties within UMNO and other BN component parties will give their full support to BN's quest to win Kelantan back in the GE14.

"This is a life-and-death mission for us (UMNO and BN) and the best opportunity after 28 years of PAS rule in the state, we have been fighting for too long and we want to see changes in Kelantan," he said.
