Opposition plans to scrap ECRL ridiculous - Sharkar

TEMERLOH, April 2 (Bernama) -- The opposition´s plan to scrap the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project if they win the 14th General Election (GE14) would dampen the country´s economic progress, especially in the east coast.

UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Sharkar Shamsudin said the government had mooted the RM55 billion project for quite some time so that the region would be on par in terms of progress with the west coast.

"As for us here, the project will be a blessing as it will greatly reduce the travel time from the east coast to Kuala Lumpur, " he said, adding that the initiative would facilitate not only rail passengers, but also transportation of cargo or goods.

He was speaking at the launch of the Barisan Nasional (BN) election machinery for the Temerloh parliamentary constituency by UMNO Treasurer Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak in Mentakab tonight.

It was reported that Pakatan Harapan planned to scrap the ECRL project if it wins the GE14.
