BN Manifesto: three PDRM elite units will be transformed





KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 (Bernama) -- Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) elite units Special Tactics and Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting), Special Task Force on Organised Crime (Stafoc) and Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gambling and Gangsterism (Stagg) will be transformed in efforts to eradicate drug-trafficking, gambling, triads and organised crime.

This is among the promises in the Barisan Nasional (BN) manifesto for the 14th General Election (GE14) , themed " With BN for A Greater Malaysia' that was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak here tonight.

The manifesto also pledges to increase control posts and monitoring systems along the Malaysian border to prevent incidents of smuggling and human-trafficking as well as terrorist threats.

The community security role through the People's Volunteer Corps (RELA) would be expanded in order to prevent crime in security zones such as the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone).

Other pledges are:

- Increasing government cooperation with local defence industry players to develop Malaysian made defence technologies.

- Establishing a Cyber Defence Operations Centre (CDOC) under the Ministry of Defence, to defend critical national assets from cyber-attacks.

- Continuing efforts to resolve regional conflicts, especially in southern Mindanao, southern Thailand and Rakhine state in Myanmar.

- Expanding regional defence diplomacy with neighbouring, border-sharing countries and strategic stakeholders through highest level dialogues, attache exchanges and joint-training.

- Expanding efforts to combat terrorism and extremism through the Global Movement of Moderates (GMM).

- Continuing efforts to disseminate ideas of peace and moderation domestically and internationally through the establishment of the King Salman Centre for International Peace.

- Increasing the number of high definition closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV HD) in high-crime areas.

- Empowering security agencies with the facilities and skills to combat cyber and white collar crimes.

- Installing more streetlights in rural areas with an allocation of RM100 million.

- Providing a RM150 million fund for maintenance and replacement of existing streetlights in rural areas.

- Continuing the 1Malaysia Resident Community grant for all residents' associations to enable the purchase of security equipment and implement crime prevention programmes.

- Increasing security patrols in public housing areas in cooperation with residents.

- Expanding the number of Rakan Cop and trained Auxiliary Police to support crime prevention efforts in neighbourhoods.

- Increasing the number of Voluntary Patrolling Scheme members to increase security controls and preserve the peace in areas with high crime rates.

- Implementing the National Immigration Control System (SKIN) throughout the country to strengthen a world-class border control system.

- Extending PDRM's modernisation efforts throughout the country as a measure to improve service quality.

- Creating special initiatives to enhance the role of community leaders in assisting the Immigration Department resolve issues relating to illegal immigrants (PATI).

- Boosting community involvement in crime prevention through PDRM's initiatives by using the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol application.

- Ensuring all Police lock-ups in the country are equipped with high definition closed circuit television cameras (CCTV HD), as a way to prevent incidents of death, suicide and fighting during detention.

- Strengthening the Community Rehabilitation Programme for Drug Addicts (CRPD) by partnering with the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) and other Government agencies.

- Constructing new Cure and Care Rehabilitation Centres in strategic areas while upgrading existing centres.

- Building and upgrading PATI detention centres in Jawi, Penang and Kemayan, Pahang.

- Establishing a 1,000-person capacity Special Prison with an integrated electronic security system for the placement of persons detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (Pota).

- Expanding the 'Kempen Perangi Dadah Habis-Habisan 3.0 (PDH 3.0)' initiative to 178 high-risk areas through the empowerment and support of local communities.

- Rejuvenating the Neighbourhood Watch (Rukun Tetangga) to look younger, more energetic and inclusive by targeting 30 percent youth representation in the leadership of the Neighbourhood Watch (Rukun Tetangga) committees.

- Continuing humanitarian aid for residents in conflict areas of the Gaza Strip, West Bank, Syria, Yemen and Rakhine.
