BN Manifesto: timely initiative to build Kalabakan CIQ complex

TAWAU, April 8 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional's promise in its 14th General Election (GE14) manifesto to build a Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex in Kalabakan, near here, is welcomed by the residents of Tawau.

A resident of Kampung Kalabakan, Ahmad Unggam, 44, said the proposed project was timely and in line with the Road Check Point (RCP) project to be implemented by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) in Kalabakan soon.

"The CIQ complex will enable early detection and also prevent the entry of criminal elements, including smugglers and terrorists.

"The collaboration between the security forces and enforcement team will also enable detailed monitoring to be carried out in the border areas," he told Bernama here today.

Meanwhile, Theresa John, 46, a resident in Felda Umas, Kalabakan, stressed that it was important for BN to continue governing the country to ensure the continuity of development, including the building of a CIQ complex.

"To ensure continuous development, attention should also be given to safety. Although the situation in Sabah is under control, efforts to strengthen its security needs to constantly be carried out in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone)," she added.

Meanwhile, chairman of Lahad Datu Hospital Visitor Board, Tan Chen Teng said BN's promise to enhance the weaponry capacity of security forces in ESSZone showed that BN leaders were concerned of safety issues in the state.

"As many of Sabah's tourist attractions like Semporna are in the ESSZone, the increase in the weaponry capacity of its security forces will assure the safety of tourists," he said, adding that safety issues were closely related to the economic advancement of local residents and state tourism.
