Selangor BN manifesto realistic - MCA President

SHAH ALAM, April 8 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) Manifesto for the 14th General Election (GE14), which was launched today, is realistic for the well-being of all the people and making Selangor great, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Liow Tiong Lai.
Liow, who is Transport Minister and Selangor MCA chairman, said the 10-point manifesto containing 100 initiatives for the people of Selangor proved BN's commitment in championing and safeguarding the welfare of all the people of Selangor.
Referring to the party's main agenda in solving the problems of water supply and flash floods in Selangor, he said if the Selangor BN could capture the state in GE14, there would be good cooperation between the Federal Government and the state government.
"This will facilitate the state-run BN government to resolve the current issues of the state including the water and flood problems, which often burden the people," he told Bernama after attending the launch of the mainfesto by Selangor BN chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar here today.
MyPPP Senior Vice President Datuk Seri Maglin D'Cruz described the free education aid for primary religious school pupils in the state as the best approach to reduce the burden of parents especially from among the low income earners.
The Selangor MyPPP chairman said free education for religious schools should be implemented as the fee charged by the state government at present was high and burdensome.
For Tanjong Karang UMNO Division Youth Chief Maruwan Ahmad, he said the manifesto shows the Selangor BN efforts to empower the people, especially the youths in the state.
Referring to the offer of constructing 6,000 units of youth transit homes in Rawang and a special youth grant for youth activities, he said: "It is hoped that the announcement on the housing aid and grants will be able to look after the welfare of youths who need housing assistance besides being able to carry out various programmes resulting from the grants awarded."
Meanwhile, generally the people of Selangor who were present at the launch, described the manifesto as relevant and touched on the needs of the people from all walks of life.
Fatimah Kasman, 60, said she hoped Selangor BN would deliver what was promised in the manifesto, especially the 50 per cent reduction in the assessment tax rate.
"Prior to this, when Selangor was governed by BN, we were taxed only RM70 a year, but after the opposition took over the rate shot up to RM350 (a year).
"I hope very much after this BN will take back Selangor ... we, as the people of Selangor, know only BN can safeguard the welfare of the people," said the housewife.
R. Pulikas, 51, who works as a security guard, said he hoped his dream of owning a house would be fulfilled when BN wins in GE14.
Pulikas said he and his family, who were currently staying at his brother\'s house here, had applied for a low-cost house from the state government but had never succeeded.
"Hopefully BN can fill my family's dream of having a house since it is hard for me to buy a home on my small salary," he said.
