Think of harmony, stability, peace, economy when choosing govt - Najib

TAWAU, April 8 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak urged the people to think about harmony, stability, peace and the economy when deciding to elect the government in the 4th General Election (GE14).

According to Najib, the people should also think about who was capable of bringing about progress and developing the country's economy to be enjoyed by all levels of the people when determining whom their government of choice would be in GE14.

"We must see who can maintain harmony in our country, namely, a very compatible relationship between people of various races, religions and cultures. Regardless of the colour of our skin, we still remain in a solid bond.

"I see that Sabah is the best example in Malaysia (in terms of racial harmony)," he said when opening the Tawau International Cultural Festival (FKAT) here tonight.

Also present were Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman, Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin, Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Sabah State Assembly Speaker Datuk Syed Abas Syed Ali.

According to Najib, the people should choose a government capable of creating political stability in the country because political stability determines the development of a country.

"Without political stability, we may not be able to bring development. Without political stability and good relations between the central and state governments we may not be able to bring progress to the state of Sabah.

"During BN rule, we have ensured political stability and good relations between the federal and state governments," he said.

According to Najib, peace should be the gauge of the people when they choose the government as only peace could ensure the people led a more prosperous life.

Therefore, Najib said he would give high commitment to determine peace in Sabah including the east coast areas which would continue to be protected by the government.

"Every citizen and every inch of Sabah shall be defended by us forever," stressed Najib.

Najib said the people should also choose the government that is capable of developing the country's economy in any situation well as the success of the economy would bring abundance of income to all levels of the people.

For example, he said the government was able to double the value of the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) to the people as announced in the Barisan Nasional Manifesto yesterday as the government had a surplus income because of its ability to manage the economy well and efficiently.

"The philosophy I hold as the head of government is that if government revenue increases, we must distribute the wealth to the people. We must help the needy people,"he said.

He said the surplus of government revenue through the collection from various sectors should be distributed to the people in need and should not be kept.

"Do not play up the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the cost of living issues without providing answers.

"As for the BN government, we provide the answer by giving back the surplus of the government's income to the people in various ways including doubling the value of BR1M for the people," he said.
