Penang Legislative Assembly dissolves tomorrow - Guan Eng





GEORGE TOWN, April 9 (Bernama) -- The Penang Legislative Assembly will be dissolved tomorrow for the state election to be held simultaneously with the 14th general election, said Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He said he had a meeting today with Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas at Seri Mutiara and received the consent to have the state legislative assembly dissolved tomorrow.

The State Executive Council, at its meeting today, also gave its unanimous approval for the dissolution of the assembly tomorrow, he said at a press conference here.

Lim said Penang Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang would be notified in writing today on tomorrow's dissolution of the assembly.

Parliament was dissolved last Saturday for GE14.

Penang has been under opposition rule since 2008. In the last general election, in 2013, the DAP won 19 of the 40 state seats, PKR won 10 and PAS one to form the state government. Barisan Nasional won 10 seats. Penang has 13 parliamentary seats, seven of which were won by DAP in GE13 and three each by PKR and BN.
