Young graduates welcome BN's promise of three million job opportunities

ALOR SETAR, April 9 (Bernama) -- The Barisan Nasional's (BN) promise to create three million job opportunities, as contained in its 14th general election manifesto unveiled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Saturday, was welcomed by youths, especially young graduates, who have just completed their studies.
A graduate from a public institution of higher learning (IPTA), Nur Sakinah Ramli, 25, from Padang Sanai, Kuala Nerang, said the move would reduce the number of graduates who failed to obtain jobs in the government and private sectors, which increased every year.
"It will also provide opportunities for young graduates to contribute constructive ideas which can help in the country's development and progress.
"Apart from that, it can also reduce the unemployment rate among young graduates who had problems getting jobs due to the recruitment of foreign workers," she told Bernama here today.
Norsyamilah Abdullah, 27, from Felda Sungai Tiang, Pendang, who graduated from a private institution of higher learning (IPTS), said she hoped more programmes like the 1Malaysia Training Scheme (SL1M) would be carried out to help young Malaysians to obtain jobs.
"Programmes like SL1M can help improve graduates' employability by preparing them with the knowledge, skills and work experience.
"The establishment of the Special Border Economic Zone (SBEZ) in Bukit Kayu Hitam is also seen to offer many job opportunities to young people and thus can reduce the number of young unemployed graduates in the state," she said.
Meanwhile, a clothing shop assistant Abdul Rafar Ahmad, 54, from Anak Bukit, Alor Setar, said the pledge by BN showed that it cared about the country's future and the young people.
"BN is concerned about the future of the young people and the country's development, so more job opportunities are being provided to give young people the chance to help develop the country," he added.
