GE14: MIC to unveil manifesto for Indian community next week

PUTRAJAYA, April 9 (Bernama) -- Come next week, the MIC will announce a special manifesto for the Indian community in preparation for the 14th General Election (GE14), says party president, Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
Without specifying the date and location of the announcement, Dr Subramaniam, who is also Health Minister, said the manifesto would take into account matters stated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when launching the BN manifesto on Saturday.
Among issues to be highlighted in the special manifesto were the continuity of the Malaysian Indian Blueprint (MIB) and key performance indicators outlined in the blueprint, he told a press conference after the World Health Day celebration at the ministry here today.
He said the MIB could be considered a huge achievement because it addressed many issues faced by the Indian community.
The BN manifesto, themed ?With BN for A Greater Malaysia', outlines the need to strengthen the multi-stream education system in National Type Tamil Schools and National Type Chinese Schools, besides empowering the socio-economic status of the Indian community through the Special Unit for Socio Economic Development of the Indian Community under the Prime Minister's Department.
Meanwhile, Dr Subramaniam said a full list of candidates contesting in the parliamentary seats allocated to the MIC would be finalised in a day or two.
On the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat which was also eyed by the People's Progressive Party (MyPPP), he said a decision had been made but declined to elaborate.
Earlier, MyPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas claimed that the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat should be returned to the party (MyPPP), based on a promise given by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 2000.
Since the 2004 General Election, the seat was held by MIC and before the dissolution of Parliament on April 7, it was held by former MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel (as an independent MP) after losing his MIC membership in 2015 during the party's internal crisis.
