GEORGE TOWN, April 9 (Bernama) -- Ex-DAP assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu will contest the Sungai Pinang state seat under the Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) flag in the upcoming 14th General Election.

PSM committee member Choo Chon Kai told a press conference here today that this would be the first time PSM would compete in Penang and for just one state seat.

Teh, who was also present at the press conference said the reason he was contesting under the PSM flag was because he found PSM was 'truly willing' to fight for social justice.

The two-term assemblyman for the Tanjung Bungah state seat, had been one of the most vocal dissident members of the DAP, and had voiced concerns on various environmental issues, including the frequent flooding in the state, and the fatal Tanjung Bungah landslide last October which claimed the lives of 11 construction workers.

He had also spearheaded an initiative to limit the tenure of the Penang chief minister to two terms but failed.

Teh officially quit the DAP yesterday.
