GE14: State BN chairmen, leaders of component parties and wings meet PM
PUTRAJAYA, April 10 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today held meetings with the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairmen of the various states, leaders of the component parties and party wings on the 14th General Election (GE14) at the Seri Perdana, here.
Najib, who is also the BN chairman, met the leaders in turn to discuss, among other things, the finalisation of the candidates' list and preparations to face the GE14.
"Yes. I am meeting the PM (prime minister) concerning the general election," said Perlis BN chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, who was met by the media as he was entering the official residence of the prime minister at about 2.20 pm.
Among those who were seen to arrive early at the grounds of Seri Perdana were Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron and Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who were BN chairmen of their respective states.
The vehicles carrying Mohamed Khaled and Idris were seen respectively leaving the grounds of Seri Perdana at 11.37 am and 11.38 am.
Attempts by a group of media representatives to get their comments, however, were unsuccessful.
Idris managed to wind down the glass window of the vehicle and shook hands with and waved to the group of media representatives who had waited at the grounds of Seri Perdana since morning.
Commenting on his meeting with Najib, he told the media representatives who had gathered around his vehicle which was leaving the grounds of Seri Perdana at about 12.30 pm that the discussion to plan the strategy for GE14 in Negeri Sembilan went smoothly.
"I feel it's over," said Mohamad on the discussion.
Asked on the outcome of the discussion to finalise the BN candidates in Negeri Sembilan, Mohamad said: "Ok. Alhamdulillah. We discussed. There were agreements and there were also disagreements.
On the preparations and confidence in defending the BN in Negeri Sembilan, he said: "Insya-Allah. We have to work hard."
Mohamad said he would also defend his State Legislative Assembly seat of Rantau in the GE14.
Also seen at the grounds of Seri Perdana were the vehicles carrying BN Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and BN Wanita chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
Later in the afternoon, among the state BN chairmen seen at the Seri Perdana grounds were Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman and Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.
Also seen were Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar who is also Selangor BN chairman, and International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed for Kelantan.
Leaders of BN component parties such as MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam and Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong were also seen at Seri Perdana.
"Everything is okay," said Dr Subramaniam, who is also Health Minister when asked by the media on his meeting with Najib.
Asked on the position of the Cameron Highlands Parliamentary seat which was also sought by the People's Progressive Party (MyPPP), Dr Subramaniam said: "Wait...just wait."
In the GE13, MIC contested the Cameron Highlands constituency which was represented by former MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel before he lost the MIC membership in 2015 during the party's internal crisis.
