May 9 public holiday proves BN govt always listens to people's voice - Tengku Adnan

PUTRAJAYA, April 11 (Bernama) -- The announcement by the government that May 9 is a public holiday in conjunction with the 14th General Election (GE14) shows the Barisan Nasional (BN) government always listens about the voice of the people, said BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

The Federal Territories Minister said the government wanted to give Malaysians an opportunity to return to their hometown and carry out their responsibilities after the Election Commission (EC) set the polling date for GE14 on a working day.

"The EC has set the polling date on Wednesday. The government has decided to make it as a public holiday as the government wants the people to vote.

"Therefore, the opposition should not make up stories alleging that the government doesn't want people to go out and vote. Today, it is clear, the government gives the people an opportunity to vote as May 9 has been declared a public holiday," he told reporters after the people's outreach sale programme here today.

Present were Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.
