KOTA SAMARAHAN, April 12 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg wants the management style and skills of community leaders at the grassroots level to be adapted to current situations, including applying present-day technology.

He said community leaders who improved their skills would earn the trust of the people.

"When the government runs the state, it also involves community leaders at the grassroots level, so whether they like it or not, they have to keep abreast of the changes. We are lucky that the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKLW) is helping to train community leaders in this state."

"One way is the Institute for Village Governance Certificate Programme by the Institute of Rural Advancement (Infra) and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL). Through this, chairman of the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) in Sarawak will be able to manage their villages better," he said.

Johari was speaking at the launch ceremony of the Infra-UniKL programme for the Sarawak Zone held in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) here today.

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Deputy KKLW Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Lingga.
