MELAKA, April 12 (Bernama) -- Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron claimed that the opposition regarded Malacca as a dumping ground for candidates who are not expect to win in the 14th general election (GE14).

The Melaka Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman said the people of Melaka had long been wise in evaluating candidates based on their service records and would not hesitate to reject opposition candidates, especially from outside who could not serve them well.

"The opposition sends 'Tom, Dick and Harry' to come here probably because they know they have no chance in Melaka. So they send these no-hopers to Melaka," he told reporters after the 'Bandaraya Penyayang Perdana' programme in conjunction with the 15th anniversary of the Melaka Historic City here today.

Idris said this when asked to comment on a portal report about a former sacked Batu Kawan UMNO division vice chief Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan, who was believed would be contesting in the Jasin parliamentary seat, near here, in GE14.

"I am confident the Melaka community will reject the candidates from outside who suddenly appear to contest in their constituencies because they are confident that the opposition cannot give an assurance as the BN government had done before," he said.

Commenting on the event today, Idris said the programme was a corporate social responsibility of the Melaka Historic City Council in approaching the people, especially those in need.
