GE14: Seven hotspots identified in Melaka

MELAKA, April 12 (Bernama) -- Melaka police have identified seven hotspots throughout the state which are expected to cause commotions during the 14th General Election (GE14).
State police chief Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan said intelligence had also detected several individuals including those detained under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 and listed 1,131 individuals nationwide who have the potential to provoke trouble during the GE14.
"However, police will closely monitor and increase security for high-risk locations involving the three districts in the state in order to avoid any untoward incidents, especially on nomination day on April 28.
"We will also place two-third of the officers and personnel from the 2,800 policemen throughout the state, while the rest will carry on with their normal duties besides assisting 500 personnel from the Bakri Police Training Centre in Muar and Segamat Police Training Centre, Johor to ensure peace and security during GE14," he told reporters at the state's 48th Police Cadet Corps anniversary celebration here today.
He called on all political parties contesting in GE14 to comply with all rules and regulations set forth to ensure the smooth running of GE14 and voters' safety.
"We hope that the installation of flags and posters can be done prudently without obstructing traffic lights and signs that can disrupt traffic and endanger the public."
Abdul Jalil said the public should not be worried to exercise their right to vote.
Commenting on the anniversary programme, he said that since its inception in March 2, 1970, a total of 117.246 secondary school students statewide have joined the Police Cadet Corps until Jan 31.
"The Police Cadet Corps also play an important role as the eyes and ears to school administrators and the police which can indirectly help prevent crime among school students."
"Although the power is limited to only reporting criminal activity, it has a positive impact in cultivating a sense of responsibility and exposure to early prevention in students," he said.
