Penang UMNO candidate list finalised

GEORGE TOWN, April 12 (Bernama) -- The list of Penang UMNO candidates for the 14th General Election has been finalised and will be announced by Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak soon.
Penang UMNO Liaison chairman Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman said UMNO will be contesting in five parliamentary seats and 15 state assembly seats.
He said eight other parliamentary seats and 25 state seats would be contested by other BN component parties, namely Gerakan, MCA and MIC.
Zainal Abidin also said he would not be contesting in GE14 and had informed the prime minister of this almost two years ago.
"I am thankful to the prime minister for agreeing to my suggestion to field a fresh face to replace me in the Nibong Tebal Parliamentary seat. I have introduced him. He has served the community and received a positive reaction from the locals," he said in a statement here today.
Zainal Abidin said UMNO would ensure BN retained the current three parliamentary seats and 10 state seats and wrest back two more parliamentary and five state seats.
