Kota Marudu: UMNO will support whoever BN nominates
KOTA KINABALU, April 13 (Bernama) -- UMNO party members in Kota Marudu will throw their support behind whoever Barisan Nasional nominates as its candidates in Kota Marudu for the 14th general election (GE14).
Its division chief Datuk Wetrom Bahanda told Bernama when met today after his meeting with Chief Minister and UMNO Sabah Liaison chief Tan Sri Musa Aman at Sri Gaya here that Kota Marudu UMNO would mobilise its machinery and members to ensure victory for BN in all the constituencies.
"We will support whoever are nominated by Barisan Nasional in Kota Marudu. That is clear. And I have explained to the chief minister that we will make sure that all BN´s candidates win, " he said, in the wake of some contention over the Matunggong seat, which is under the Kota Marudu parliamentary constituency with Tandek.
The Matunggong state seat recently became an issue after Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during his visit to Kota Marudu proposed that PBS lend it to UMNO to increase BN´s chances of winning with a bigger majority.
The constituency is Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS)´s quota in BN´s power sharing concept.
In GE13, the seat, a PBS stronghold since the party rejoined BN in 2002, fell to PKR´s candidate Datuk Jelani Hamdan with a slim majority of 320 votes.
Jelani, a former Kota Marudu UMNO division chief subsequently left the opposition to become a BN-friendly independent.
