Perlis does not need specific GE14 maifesto - Azlan Man
KANGAR, April 14 (Bernama) --Perlis does not need a specific manifesto as there will be a 'Malay tsunami' or rejection of the opposition among Malay voters in the 14th general election (GE14), said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.
He said the nine projects worth RM410 million announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak during his visit to Perlis earlier this year and in the 2018 Budget which focused on three key issues namely addressing the water supply and flood problems as well as upgrading roads and installing street lights were seen as able to fulfill the needs of the people in the state.
"The opposition is simply playing with the people's emotions by repeating the same issues, hoping to influence the people to vote for them in the GE14.
"Therefore the Barisan Nasional (BN) manifesto announced by the Prime Minister recently is our manifesto," he told reporters when met at a National Anti-Drug Agency programme here today.
In Alor Setar, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah described the opposition's promise of abolishing the debts of Felda settlers made in its manifesto as a gimmick to garner settlers' votes.
He said if the opposition really wanted to abolish the debt, Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad could have done it during his time as the prime minister.
"Why he (Tun Mahathir) did not abolish the debt during his 22 years in power. Now that he is the head of the opposition, he wants to abolish it merely to fish for votes.
"The opposition can go to Felda settlements, villages and residential areas as it is their right but I would like to remind the people to be cautious and not to fall easily for empty promises made by them," he told reporters after officiating the 'Jom Turun Bendang' programme.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Bashah said a power transition would only make it difficult to ensure the continuity of development in the state as the opposition would not be able to fulfill its obligations to the people.
"They come only once in every five years with their false promises to influence the people, so do not repeat the same mistakes that would only be detrimental to the people. Just look at the state during the opposition rule, they have not made any progress," he said.
In TERENGGANU, the state BN is to field women candidates in parliamentary and state seats that it lost to the opposition in the previous general election.
Terengganu BN chairman and Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman, however, did not name the women candidates .
"We will field women candidates in the 15 state seats and four parliamentary seats which we lost to the opposition," he told reporters.
In NEGERI SEMBILAN, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the success of BN in developing as well as maintaining peace and stability of the state and the country had been the envy of many.
The state BN chairman said although Malaysia was just a small country, it could be developed through the BN's struggle and mutual respect among people of diverse races.
"Do not listen to outsiders who are envious of the peace and stability that have been achieved by our country and only want to cause tension between races.
"Throughout 61 years of the country being governed by the BN, although Malaysia is not considered as a rich country, it can still be well managed. The recipe for the country's success is the multiracial unity among its people who together play a role in building this country," he said.
