Election scarves selling like hot cakes

KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 (Bernama) -- Election fever is already felt although polling day is still three weeks away, yet for Chenta Watie Scarf entrepreneur, it was the perfect opportunity to rake in the profits from 'tudung PRU' which are selling like hot cakes.

Its director, Irdawati Samsudin, 38, said pre orders for the special edition scarves patterned with the logo of eight-political parties in Malaysia reached 1,000 when it was first launched in March via the boutique's Instagram.

The patterns on the scarves are of the logo of Barisan Nasional, UMNO, Parti Keadilan Rakyat, PAS and Parti Amanah Negara.

"Initially, I only targeted to sell 2,000 to 3,000 election scarves; I never expected it to reach 7,000.

"We had planned to stop taking more orders but seeing the overwhelming demand from customers all over Malaysia, we decided to continue," she told Bernama recently.

She undertook the business venture with her husband in Simpang Renggam, Johor in 2013 and initially sold various types of scarves but the couple decided to try something different by releasing a special edition National Day scarf, last year.

From then on, they never looked back, continuing to release special edition scarves for celebrations such as Teacher's Day and Mother's Day and so on.
