EC denies refusal to discuss party logo

PUTRAJAYA, April 17 (Bernama) -- The Election Commission (EC) has denied claims by certain parties that it had refused to meet with them to discuss the use of party logos and symbols in the 14th general election (GE14) because it was too busy.
In a statement today, it said its legal advisory office received a letter handed by representatives of the parties last Thursday.
It had planned to hold a meeting at 10 am yesterday but its legal advisory office had already replied the letter informing the parties that the proposed date was not suitable because it had to attend to a case at Temerloh High Court in Pahang.
"In its response, the legal advisory office also said the matters arising were in the process of being finalised by EC and would be communicated to the political parties soon and for them to wait for the official announcement by EC, " it said.
Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir was reported to have alleged that EC had refused to meet them on the matter.
Dr Mahathir said EC in its reply to PKR secretary general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution said it could not meet the request as it was busy with certain pending matters.
