MIC not ruling out seat swap but confident of contesting in Cameron Highlands

KLANG, April 18 (Bernama) -- MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam has not ruled out the possibility of a swap of seats between the party and other Barisan Nasional components as a strategy to ensure a BN victory in the 14th general election on May 9.

The Health Minister also revealed six of the nine parliamentary seats the MIC would contest, namely Sungai Siput (Perak), Tapah (Perak), Segamat (Johor), Kapar (Selangor), Kota Raja (Selangor) and Cameron Highlands (Pahang).

He is confident that the party will defend Cameron Highlands despite the keen interest for the seat shown by BN component MyPPP.

"We will be contesting nine parliamentary and 18 state seats in the general election," he told reporters after the handing over of the Taman Sentosa Tamil school new building at a ceremony here today. Also present at the function was Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan and Kota Raja MIC chief Datuk R.S. Maniam.

When pressed for the details on the other seats, including the seats that could be swapped, Dr Subramaniam asked the media to wait for the official announcement on the matter by BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said it was of utmost importance for all BN component party leaders to give and take, and abide by the decision made by the top BN leadership on seat allocation.

"For instance, if UMNO decides to contest in any one of the MIC seats, we will make way for them and this is something normal in BN. In the end, our goal is to win the general election," he said.
