UMNO to continue contesting Kuala Langat parliamentary seat
BANTING, April 18 (Bernama) -- Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar gives his assurance that the Kuala Langat parliamentary seat will continue to be contested by a candidate from UMNO in the 14th General Election (GE14) on May 9.
This was in order to retain a tradition of placing an UMNO candidate to contest in the area, he told reporters here, today.
Prior to this, there was hearsay that an outside candidate purportedly from a Barisan Nasional (BN) component party would be contesting in the parliamentary seat.
In a follow up to this, generally BN leaders and members wanted the decision to be reviewed to strengthen the support of members and voters in the area.
At GE13, a three-corner fight in the Kuala Langat Parliamentary constituency saw the BN candidate from UMNO Captain Sharuddin Omar (R) losing to a Parti Keadilan Rakyat candidate Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid with a 5,358-vote majority.
In the meantime, Noh reminded party leaders and members not to announce themselves as candidates before the decision on the matter was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
