MIC manifesto realistic, achievable - party leaders
KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 (Bernama) -- The special MIC manifesto for the 14th general election (GE14) aimed at transforming the Indian community is very realistic and can be implemented effectively in the next five to 10 years.
Its Vice-President, Datuk T. Mohan is confident that all the offers and initiatives in the manifesto will complement the Barisan Nasional (BN)'s national manifesto launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on April 7.
The pledges in the manifesto are achievable in line with the Malaysian Indian Blueprint (MIB), he told reporters after the launch of the manifesto by MIC President, Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, here today.
The MIC manifesto launched for the first time for the 14th general election (GE14), outlined four main pillars with 22 holistic initiatives covering all aspects of the Indian community.
Meanwhile, Federal Territory MIC Liaison Committee Chairman Datuk M. Saravanan said this was the first ever manifesto with an 'Indian agenda' focused on eradicating poverty among Indians by looking at core issues faced by the community.
"Previously, our pledges for the Indians were in general under BN (Barisan Nasional) manifesto but this time, it's a holistic approach which focuses on matters of importance to the Indian community among others, to improve their socio-economic status, he said.
Saravanan, who is also Deputy Youth and Sports Minister and Tapah MP, hoped this effort would come to fruition and transformed the lives of the Indians in the country.
Meanwhile, Titiwangsa MIC Wanita Chief J. Usha Nandhini, said via the manifesto, the party had taken into account all problems faced by the Indians especially those in the B40 group.
"I believe this manifesto actually sees the real problems of the Indian community and will bring overall benefits to the community," she said.
