RM746,000 approved for cleaning up clogged drains in Manggatal town
SEPANGGAR, April 19 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan approved an allocation of RM746,000 via Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) to carry out large-scale drain cleaning works to resolve the issue of clogged drains and flooding in Manggatal town.
He said the emergency provision was approved about a month ago, which was sufficient for the cleaning of all the drains in Manggatal town area and DBKK could complete the work within a few days.
"Today DBKK will send the heavy machinery to clear the entire 3.5km stretch in Manggatal town, covering all the main drains."
"This town is actually rapidly developing. I have informed the leaders in the area that in order to solve the problem of floods in the long run, there should be awareness among the residents and traders to ensure garbage is not disposed of down the drains," he said.
Abdul Rahman was speaking to reporters after inspecting the drain cleaning work in Manggatal town today. Also present were Sepanggar UMNO Division acting chief Datuk Yakub Khan and Inanam state seat incumbent Datuk Johnny Goh.
When the drain cleaning work in Manggatal town has been completed, the next target would be cleaning the drainage in Inanam town, another town within the Sepanggar parliamentary constituency, with an allocation of RM1 million, Abdul Rahman said.
