250,000 JKKK, JKKKP, JKKKOA members protected by insurance scheme

BERANANG, April 19 (Bernama) -- Some 250,000 members of the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK), Federal JKKK (JKKKP) and Orang Asli JKKK (JKKKOA) aged 69 years and below are covered by a takaful insurance protection scheme, effective April 1, 2018.

Rural and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the benefits to be derived under the scheme were RM3,000 for natural death and common permanent disability, RM5,000 for death due to accident and permanent disability due to accident, and RM1,000 for funeral expenses.

"The approved annual premium is RM17 for each member, whereby the government will pay RM10 and the balance by the member," he said when met at the launching of the Takaful Group Insurance Protection Scheme at the Mara-Japan Industrial Institute, here.

He said the JKKK members needed not pay a single sen for the insurance premium but the balance would be deducted only once from their allowance within a year.

For each chairman and secretary, the amount will be deducted from their monthly allowance, while for the JKKK/JKKKP/JKKKOA members, it would be deducted from their meeting attendance allowance.

"This insurance protection is aimed at recognising their contribution in developing their respective villages, besides looking after their welfare and lessening their families' financial burden when faced with death or disability (of the insurance policy holder)," the minister said.

Ismail Sabri said his ministry had also issued the JKKK/JKKKP/JKKKOA card, with each cardholder entitled to a discount when purchasing agrocultural products and paying for accommodation, food and beverage, and so on at selected hotels and resorts.

Last August, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced a group insurance scheme to be created for JKKK, JKKKP and JKKKOA members nationwide.
