BN supporters want UMNO to retain Jelebu

JELEBU, April 19 (Bernama) -- More than 200 supporters from Barisan Nasional (BN) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) today want the party leadership to consider allowing UMNO to continue contesting in the Jelebu parliamentary seat in the 14th General Election (GE14) on May 9.

The group's spokesman, Habibah Harun, said this was because there was rumour that the seat would be contested by the BN component party, MIC.

She said the Jelebu parliamentary constituency has 48,634 voters, comprising 33,836 Malay voters, 12,029 Chinese voters and 2,769 Indian voters.

"We appeal to UMNO president, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, his deputy, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and UMNO vice-president, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein to retain the seat for UMNO.

"We are also unable to contain the voters' disappointment as some have raised banners rejecting the MIC candidate and we are very worried that this may be realised in GE14," she told a press conference, here today.
