SHAH ALAM, April 19 (Bernama) -- Former Selangor Amanah (Amanah) election bureau chief Jaafar Samsuddin said not being listed as a candidate for the 14th General Election (GE14) was not his main reason for quitting the party.

However, he cited his disappointment with the party leadership and personal matters as reasons for him to leave.

"If my voice as a party member was completely ignored by the the leadership, what's the point of being in the party," he said when contacted by Bernama here today.

It was reported that Jaafar who was also the Kota Raja Amanah division chief submitted his resignation letter yesterday.

Jaafar, who left PAS and joined Amanah in 2016, also stressed that lack of mutual respect, ignoring the views of those at the grassroots and unclear party's direction were also among his other reasons for quitting.

"I was given an important post for the election, but my voice and opinions were not heard and respected by the leadership and the party members, it's no point for me to hold the post.

"I have fulfilled the trust (the post) and responsibility given based on my experience, but there were some who questioned my credibility," he said, adding that being called 'old fashioned' had also affected his credibility as the party's election bureau chief.

Having more than 30 years of experience in politics, Jaafar said he was also very disappointed with Amanah as despite the GE14 drawing near, the party was still in a state of disarray with many of its members trying to be 'smart alecks'.

Jaafar said he had no plans to join any political parties as he wanted to rest from politics and spend time with his family.
