JOHOR BAHRU, April 20 (Bernama) -- Johor Wanita MCA chief Wong You Fong has been announced as the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Perling state seat in the 14th General Election (GE14).
The announcement was made by MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai when visiting the Pulai MCA Division Operations Room here today.
Also present were MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, Deputy Home Minister and Pulai MP Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, and Johor Tourism, Trade and Consumerism Committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong.
Wong, who is also Wanita MCA deputy chief, said she was confident of recapturing the seat, in view of the good cooperation among BN component parties.
In GE13, DAP's Cheo Yee How beat BN candidate Chang Mei Kee by a majority of 1970s in the Perling state seat, which was then known as Pengkalan Rinting.
Meanwhile, after a meeting the BN's election machinery for the Tebrau parliamentary constituency, Liow slammed DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang for dilly-dallying about where he will be contesting in GE14.
"Lim appears to be lost because of internal squabbles in DAP. He says he wants to send a 'tiger' to (the parliamentary seat of) Johor Bahru but the only strongman he has with him is Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong.
His comments come in the wake of speculation that Lim would not be defending his Gelang Patah (name changed to Iskandar Puteri after the latest redelineation) seat but instead move to JB to take on the BN incumbent Tan Sri Shahrir Samad who has held the seat from 1978 with a break from 1990-2004 .
In GE13, MCA's Datuk Khoo Soo Seang defended the Tebrau seat for BN after defeating Choong Shiau Yoon of PKR by a majority of 1,767 votes.
