Manifesto: BN to enhance dignity of Islam in Kelantan

KOTA BHARU, April 20 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Barisan Nasional (BN) Manifesto for the 14th general election is seen as capable of boosting efforts towards improving Islamic Iaws (Syariah) which have been the party's stand, said political observers.
Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Malaysian Institute of Political Analysis (Mapan) director Dr Kamarul Zaman Yusoff said it gave assurance to the people of Kelantan that the development of Islamic laws which is considered as important in the state touted as the Corridor of Mekah would not be marginalised
"This is a new perception to ease the anxiety of some people in the state against BN which had been branded as being less interested in championing Islam," he told Bernama.
The manifesto themed "Together for Kelantan" contains seven main assurances encompassing all strata of Kelantan residents with 60 offers.
The seven assurances are to empower Islamic religious laws, sustainable economic development, people welfare, empowering youths, improving infrastructure, sustainable environment and protection of minority groups.
Taking the setting up of Universiti Al-Quran as pledged in the manifesto, Kamarul Zaman said it would not be a problem if BN wins in Kelantan as its construction was only a normal administrative matter.
"There is no need to amend any laws or constitution to effect the project," he said.
In this regard, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) deputy vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Ibrahim Che Omar said the wind of change would prevail over Kelantan as promised by BN including the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), expansion of Sultan Ismail Petra Airport and the development of Tok Bali Port.
"The three projects would give multiple impact to the economy of Kelantan and create employment opportunities for the people in the state," he said.
According to him, BN's pledges in housing, transportation and infrastructure would also benefit the people in the state and boost economic activities.
