GE14: Four-corner fight on the cards in Bagan Datuk
BAGAN DATUK, April 20 (Bernama) -- The contest for the Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat which was won by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the 13th General Election (GE13) is expected to be fierce, in anticipation of a four-corner fight on the cards in the coming GE14.
To date, an independent candidate, 'Raja Bomoh' whose real name is Datuk Ibrahim Mat Zin, 68, has expressed his intention to contest in the parliamentary seat, which he made known at a press conference in Ipoh on April 17.
The Persatuan Seni Silat Gayung Ghaib Malaysia president said he would be contesting in his birthplace to fulfill the 10-year wish of his supporters for him to become their elected representative and defend the fate of the people.
On the other hand, Pakatan Harapan has confirmed it would be contesting the seat, with the candidate's name to be announced in the near future.
PAS has also announced that its information chief in Bagan Datuk, Ata Abdul Muneim Hasan Adli would contest for the seat.
BN has yet to unveil its candidate for the constituency where Ahmad Zahid won with a majority of 2,108 votes in a straight fight against PKR candidate Mahdi Hasan in GE13.
Ahmad Zahid has been Bagan Datuk MP for five straight terms since winning the seat for the first time in the 1995 General Election.
The Election Commission has set polling date for GE14 on May 9. Nomination day is April 28.
