Salleh urges parents to take advantage of Tuisyen Rakyat@KKLW programme

KOTA BELUD, April 21 (Bernama) -- Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak today advised parents to take full advantage of a government tuition programme that aims to ensure equal educational opportunities for rural children.
He said the Tuisyen Rakyat@KKLW programme was a facility to help enhance the level of education of less fortunate rural schoolchildren.
"The programme is a government effort to ensure that people in the rural areas can also enjoy facilities similar to those in the urban centres," he said at the launch of the Tuisyen Rakyat@KKLW for the Kota Belud parliamentary constituency at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Pekan 2 here.

Meanwhile, Mara Education Foundation (YPM) chairman Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan said the programme was implemented through a corporate social responsibility concept by all agencies under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKLW).
"Last year, about 28,000 schoolchildren benefited from the Tuisyen Rakyat@KKLW at 600 tuition centres nationwide, " she said, adding that this year´s target was 30,000 students. The text of her speech was read out by YPM deputy chairman Maslina Aloh.
Zahida said the Tuisyen Rakyat@KKLW programme in the Kota Belud parliamentary constituency involved 100 schoolchildren from SMK Pekan 1 and SMK Pekan 2.
