PBDS Baru not contesting non Dayak majority seats

KUCHING, April 21 (Bernama) -- PBDS Baru will not be contesting in non Dayak majority parliamentary seats in Sarawak in the 14th General Election (GE14), said its election director Rapelson Richard Hamit.

In a statement today, the Dayak based opposition party or commonly known as Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru, said it would contest in not more than five Barisan Nasional (BN) seats.

The party is eyeing the parliamentary seats of Mas Gading, Puncak Borneo, Sri Aman, Lubok Antu and Selangau and has announced its potential candidates, namely party president Cobbold John for Sri Aman deputy president Patrick Anek Uren (Mas Gading), Women chief Sylvia John (Selangau) and a supreme council member Johnny Chuat (Lubok Antu).

"The candidate for Puncak Borneo seat shall be announced on nomination day.

"We appreciate it very much if STAR would contest other seats especially these non Dayak seats and give way to PBDS Baru to have a straight fight in these five seats," Rapelson said.

The party also denied allegations that non Dayak candidates will be using PBDS Baru banner in GE14.

"PBDS Baru is a Dayak based party and in this coming general election we will not allow non Dayak members to use our banner.

"There are requests from certain parties but we turned down such requests. PBDS Baru is a platform for Dayak's future, regardless of religion and status quo as long as you are a native indigenous people," he said

Raphelson added that the party did not belonged to a single entity but it belonged to every single members.
