"I was taught not to betray friends in politics" - Musa

SANDAKAN, April 21 (Bernama) -- Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman said the act of betraying friends should not be practised in politics.

The incumbent for the Sungai Sibuga state constituency said he was taught since his first day in the political arena not to sabotage his friends.

"Sabah's Father of Independence, the late Tun Datu Mustapha Datu Harun also taught me not to betray friends, party, people and country.

"Most importantly, Islam also teaches us to be sincere in our struggles and fair in any action towards all races," he said at a gathering with the Sandakan fishermen and the launching of the Libaran Area Fishermen's Association (PNK) here today.

Musa, who is also Sabah UMNO chairman, said such action was done by opposition party leaders when they were still in UMNO.

Hence, he wanted the people in the state to reject leaders such as those because they were championing their struggles based on the power seeking factor.

Meanwhile Musa said the welfare of the fishermen was a priority for the government to ensure that the group lived comfortably through special assistance provided.

He said the government was aware of the important role played by the fishermen as a major contributor of food sources in the country.

At the event, Musa also handed over a cheque replica of RM2 million for this month's payment of the 1Malaysia People's Aid to the Sandakan PNK members and RM650,000 for the enhancement programme of 15 PNKs statewide.
