JOHOR BAHRU, April 21 (Bernama) -- Incumbent for the Johor Bahru parliamentary seat Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad today said that fear should not be an issue for any former elected representatives of Barisan Nasional (BN) if they were nominated again to contest in the 14th General Election (GE14).
"Fear shouldn't be an issue if we have discharged all the duties and responsibilities entrusted on us to the best of our ability," he said when asked whether he was afraid to be nominated again to defend the Johor Bahru seat.
Shahrir said he personally believed that he served the constituents well and had fulfilled his responsibilities as the elected representative for Johor Bahru for seven terms since 1978, except from 1990 to 1999 when the seat was held by his then political secretary Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, who is now Johor Menteri Besar.
As such, he said his service would not stop here and that he would continue serving the constituents if they wanted him to.
"They have every right to evaluate me, and if nominated again for the GE14, I will leave it to them to decide," he told reporters after attending the 'Sentuhan Rakyat sale programme at the Farmers' Market in Jalan Padi Mahsuri here today.
In the GE13, Shahrir defeated PKR's candidate Md Hashim Hussein with 10,134-vote majority.
On Felda community's support to BN, Shahrir, who is also Felda chairman, said he was confident that every effort and undying commitment of the government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, would be translated into support by Felda settlers in the GE14.
