Young voters want more young candidates in GE14

KOTA KINABALU, April 21 (Bernama) -- The nomination of young people as candidates is often the topic of discussion during general election.
In Sabah, the number of registered voters is 1,117,337 and about 40 per cent of them are young voters.
Given the huge number of young voters, many youth leaders either from the Barisan Nasional (BN) or the opposition have demanded the party leaderships to field more young candidates in the coming 14th General Election (GE14).
Sabah Youth Council president Nourman Rayn Awang Zaini said it was time to field new faces of young people in the general election as the current political demographic and voting trend had changed.
"It is time for us in Sabah to give way to young blood to strengthen the support of young people towards the government, as well as helping to contribute fresh ideas in the formulation of state government policies for continued progress and prosperity in Sabah."
Meanwhile, Kinabalu Youth Inspiration Association president Abqaree Fawwaz Abekan said the candidates should also be selected after taking into account their popularity at the grassroots, people-friendly demeanour and preparedness to provide dedicated service to the people.
"So, many are wondering how many young candidates will be fielded in the GE14. I expect some new faces from the BN.
"But I think not that many young faces will be fielded in the GE14, maybe because some of the traditional voters still cannot accept young candidates in their areas," he said.
