Bukit Bintang BN continuous efforts can win people's hearts

KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Bernama) -- Continuous efforts to meet residents to resolve various issues around Bukit Bintang has regained the confidence of the Barisan Nasional (BN) to wrest the parliamentary seat in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Bukit Bintang MCA Division Women chief Ann Tan Ean Ean said despite being the opposition DAP stronghold, she was confident ongoing efforts by her party could produce 'miracles' based on the positive feedback received when going to the ground.
"Bukit Bintang residents are demoralised with their elected representative who does not go down to the ground and 'disappears from radar' every time they ask for assistance and we have to help them, especially on the issue of hawkers' welfare.
"Among the issues often faced by the residents of Bukit Bintang are problems pertaining to market hawkers, perforated roads, clogged drains and traffic congestion that we have resolved after failing to locate their representative," she said when met by reporters after the 'Jom Bersih Bukit Bintang 14' programme here today.
Tan, 43, among the names nominated as the BN candidate in the Bukit Bintang parliamentary constituency in GE14, said her strategy included constantly going to the ground and participating in programmes with the people such as visiting coffee shops, food courts and wet markets.
She said her frequent visits to the markets and coffee shops almost every morning to meet with the women voters and resolve their issues were very much appreciated by them.
"We are still continuing our efforts to resolve the problems of the people even though we lose in the previous election and we don't wait for five years to work for the people," she said.
If Tan is fielded in the Bukit Binatang parliamentary seat, she will face the DAP candidate in the GE14.
In the GE13, the Bukit Bintang four-term incumbent Fong Kui Lun, 72, who is also DAP treasurer won the seat with a majority of 19,399 votes, defeating Franklin Gan Jonn Zin from BN.
At present Bukit Bintang parliamentary seat has about 50,000 voters.
