MCA remains committed to fulfill educational needs of Chinese community
JOHOR BAHRU, April 21 (Bernama) -- MCA will continue its commitment in helping to improve educational infrastructure for the Chinese community in Johor, said its deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
He said the efforts taken by the party, however, would not have been materialised if the country was not helmed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who had approved the construction of 10 Chinese National-Type Schools (SJKC), namely five each in Johor and Selangor.
"This is not a solo effort by the MCA. The state government under the administration of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin should also be praised for his continuous concern on education, not only for the Chinese, but also other races.
"We can see in the Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) manifesto that they pledged to ensure that all schools including the Chinese, Tamil and religious schools to be completed by 2023," he told reporters after launching the ground breaking ceremony for the third branch of Sekolah Menengah Foon Yew at Bandar Seri Alam here today.
The minister in the Prime Minister's Department said the state government was also committed in providing assistance to all schools with the cooperation from local authorities.
Earlier at the event, Wee said the new school branch could accommodate about 5,000 students.
