GE14: Pahang BN retains old guard

BENTONG, April 21 (Bernama) -- Pahang Barisan Nasional (BN) will be retaining its old guard for the 14th general election and will only be fielding new candidates in three seats, two of which the incumbents have died and the other because the incumbent has decided not to defend his seat.
Its chairman Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said he was made to understand candidates for the parliamentary seats had received their offer letters while for the state seats, the list would be given by BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak tomorrow.
"If it is so, I will announce the names on Monday or Tuesday when launching the BN manifesto for Pahang... there are one or two seats that have not been finalised.
"Not many new candidates because the old guard are still accepted by the people including me," he told reporters after closing the 'Jom Ride For Tok Nan' programme at Felda Sungai Kemahal here today.
The Paya Besar parliamentary seat and Lepar state seat fell vacant due to the death of the incumbents.
In ARAU, Perlis BN chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the potential candidates had huddled together and each of them had stated that they would accept it if they were not selected this time.
He said that the final list was still with Najib and that he expected to announce the names at the latest by Monday.
The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department was speaking to reporters after presenting special aid of RM600 for three months to 600 farmers and mataq coconut seedlings to 1,000 people besides other incentives amounting to RM25.343 million to farmers from around the Arau parliamentary constituency here today.
He added that Perlis BN would also be launching its manifesto for the state on Tuesday.
