Loyal UMNO voters remain BN's deposit in Semporna
SEMPORNA, April 22 (Bernama) --- Semporna UMNO has loyal supporters and this support will be translated into votes on May 9 in conjunction with the 14th General Election, said Semporna UMNO Division acting chief Datuk Nasir Tun Sakaran.
He said it had become a tradition for UMNO in every General Election to be confronted with many opposition candidates but UMNO's loyal voters so far have ensured victory for the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in Semporna.
"We (UMNO) are confident that we have loyal voters who can ensure victory for the leadership.
"BN has an available vote count (UMNO members) of about 28,000 in Semporna and this will remain as a deposit for UMNO in the upcoming election," he said when met here, today.
According to Nasir, in every GE the opposition candidate only collects about 4,000 to 5,000 votes.
However, he reminded the party machinery not to be complacent with past statistics, instead to consistently work to meet the people.
"The opposition candidates this time may have been among former party (UMNO) members who know the ins and outs of our moves so we need to strengthen the machinery, unite and go down to the ground," he reminded all members in the 481 Semporna UMNO branches in preparing for the GE14.
Nasir also kept reminding all UMNO members, including prospective candidates for the parliamentary and state seats for Semporna to unite and not to go solo.
"We are united and confident of winning," he said.
