Lahad Datu young voters excited ahead of polling day

LAHAD DATU, April 24 (Bernama) -- Generally young voters in Lahad Datu district who will be fulfilling their civic responsibility as Malaysians this May 9 are eager to cast their ballot for the first time.
For them it is important to exercise their voting rights in the 14th general election (GE14) as this will decide the future of Sabah and the nation.
In a Bernama survey some admitted feeling nervous going out to vote for the first time.
According to Rahimah Rahim, 25, a private sector employee, new voters should decide wisely by voting for government that will not burden the people.
"Vote for a government that can bring great progress to the state as well as fight for the rights of Sabahans," she said.
Muhammad Izzmir Nolsen, 25, in sharing his excitement on going to the polls for the first time, did not hesitate to declare his support for the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates.
"Although new political parties have emerged, BN has its own aura and the leaders understand the hearts of the people," he said.
"We are already comfortable with the past elected representatives as they had won the hearts of the people and had been consistent in their efforts to help us," he said.
Nurshazella Amsain, 23, who will be casting her maiden vote at at the Tungku polling district centre said she would vote to ensure the BN continues to rule.
"It is hoped that the candidates who win will bring growth and prosperity especially for people in Tungku state constituency," said the housewife.
In Lahad Datu, the Silam parliamentary constituency has three state seats namely Kunak, Lahad Datu and Tungku.
