Apas constituents grateful to BN government

TAWAU, April 24 (Bernama) -- Voters in the Apas state constituency will always be grateful to the Barisan Nasional (BN) government for their unwavering support and relentless effort to help residents here.

A resident of Kampong Membelua, Asis Mad Tali, 79, said it was important for the BN to win in the 14th general election (GE14) on May 9 and continue to govern Sabah, as the leaders had contributed much to the state.

"We have received various assistance from the BN government among them subsidised free bus for our children to travel to school, school aid and the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M).

"If BN wins, there will be continuous aid and development," he told Bernama here.

Asis said there was no reason for the Apas constituents to reject the BN as the party had succeeded in bringing economic development and prosperity for the people.

A Kampung Wakuba housewife, Rustiani Baba, 37, said BN was still relevant in Apas because to address the rising cost of living, the BN government had created various mechanisms to help ease the burden of the people.

"BN is really helping the people for example through the Sentuhan Rakyat Carnival and Jimat Belanja Dapur programme which offer low prices for essentials items such as cooking oil, fish, chicken and rice," she said.

In fact, according to Rustiani, the government through the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) had also set up a 1Malaysia People's Agrobazar (APR1M) store in Apas, a strategic area where villagers could buy their provisions without having to travel to Tawau.

A resident from Kampung Inderasabah, Tahir Rappe, 54, said the future Apas assemblyman should follow the footstep of the late Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan, who had been responsible and well-liked by the people.

Tahir said he was confident that old and young voters of the fishermen community would continue to support the BN, more so with Tawfik's younger brother Datuk Nizam contesting the state seat.

In GE13, Tawfiq from BN defeated Alizaman Jijurahman of Parti Keadilan Rakyat with a majority of 6,122 votes.

Tawfiq died of colon cancer on March 14, at the age of 56, at the Prince Court Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur.
