Announcement on candidacy an honour to Dayak women - Selangau new face

SIBU, April 24 (Bernama) -- New face Rita Sarimah Patrick Insol has regarded her announcement as the candidate for Selangau parliamentary seat by Sarawak BN chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg today as an honour not only for herself but for all Dayak women.

In a message uploaded to her Facebook account with the profile name Rita Insol at about 11am today, the 57-year-old former magistrate thanked PRS president Tan Sri Dr James Masing and the party's selection committee for selecting her.

"We are proud today that Parti Rakyat Sarawak has created history by nominating the first Dayak woman to contest in a GE.

"The days ahead will be a battle, the battle of winning people's heart. I invite all my FB friends to keep our team in prayers that the election will be trouble-free, that all will be safe and healthy, that unity and solidarity prevail and we win handsomely," she said.

Rita continuously received congratulatory messages on her Facebook from the constituents in Selangau, especially women, who hoped that she could bring a lot of changes in the area.

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia associate professor Madeline Berma also congratulated Rita.

"A historic day for kitai Indu Dayak (us Dayak women). Congratulations Rita. I am SO happy for the Dayak, Malaysians. You are definitely a politician who can and will bring change to your constituents. God bless you," she said.

Rita was a former magistrate with the state Judicial Department and former legal head of the Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad.

She is one of the six candidates from PRS contesting in the GE14.

The Selangau seat incumbent and PRS deputy president Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun was expelled two days ago for going against the party's decision not to renominate him as a candidate.
