Zahid defends Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat for sixth time





IPOH, April 24 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will contest for the Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat for the sixth time in the 14th General Election (GE14).

The Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman is expected to be involved in a four-cornered fight with candidates from the Pakatan Harapan, PAS and an Independent.

Ahmad Zahid, 65, has been contesting in Bagan Datuk since 1995.

In the GE13, he defeated PKR candidate Madhi Hasan with a majority of 2,108 votes.

On April 17, Datuk Ibrahim Mat Zin, 68, or better known as Raja Bomoh announced his intention to contest in the parliamentary seat while PAS will place Ata Abdul Muneim Hasan Adli. Pakatan Harapan has yet to announce its candidate for the constituency.

Perak BN chairman Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, who announced the list of candidates at his official residence here today, said Perak BN would contest in 24 parliamentary and 59 state seats.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also a native of Bagan Datuk has brought various development in the district, including in the education, industrial and tourism sectors.

On Jan 9, 2017, the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah declared Bagan Datuk as the 12th district in Perak.
