Do not hang flags, banners at prohibited areas - KTMB

KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 (Bernama) -- Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has advised all political parties contesting in the upcoming 14th general election (GE14) not to hang campaign materials such as flag lines and banners in its operational boundaries.

The prohibited areas include rail over bridges, railway tracks (including fencing, electrical cable poles and signboards), stations/terminals/depots, railway garages, quarters and buildings.

KTMB chief executive officer Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin said the ban was issued to prevent the campaign materials from touching the 25 kV overhead lines, which could disrupt train operations as well as threaten the safety of crew and passengers.

"We want to ensure that the trains run smoothly throughout the GE14 campaign period and on polling day. It is hoped that those campaigning will not put up their campaign materials in the prohibited areas," he said in a statement here today.

Should anyone come across any situation which may affect train operations, notify the nearest KTMB auxiliary police or contact the Auxiliary Police Support Centre at 03-22631194.
