GE14 will determine future of the country - Hishammuddin

KUALA KRAI, April 24 (Bernama) -- The 14th General Election (GE14) is not an ordinary election as it will determine the direction and future of the country, according to UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

He said the people should continue to give the mandate to Barisan Nasional (BN) to allow them to enjoy the on-going development agenda that would ensure their well-being.

Hishammuddin said BN had been a strong and reliable coalition despite often being hurled with various allegations.

"Although having been attacked by baseless allegation pretty frequently, the coalition remains intact. This is the advantage that we (BN) have.

"On the contrary, they (opposition) will do whatever it takes as long as they achieve their goals. They are also willing to obscure the people for a short-term gain," he said in his speech before more than 1,000 BN supporters at the meet-and-greet session at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Laloh here today.

Also present was Kuala Krai UMNO division chief Datuk Ramzi Ab Rahman, who was announced as the BN candidate for the Kuala Krai parliamentary seat.

Speaking at a press conference after the event, Hishammuddin believed that the GE14 would be the best opportunity for BN to wrest and administer Kelantan again after 28 years.

"Honestly, I can see that the spirit and mood in Kelantan (today) is different from the past. It is time for BN to achieve victory in the state," he said.

In addition, Hishammuddin also praised the attitudes of individuals who did not make it to the nomination list and that they had placed the coalition above everything.

Kelantan BN fields 30 new faces and veteran leaders in the GE14 in an attempt to recapture the state from PAS over the past 28 years.

In GE13, PAS won in Kelantan after winning 32 state seats, followed by BN (12) and PKR (one).
