Penang BN youngest candidateto use her charm to win votes

GEORGE TOWN, April 24 (Bernama) -- Penang Barisan Nasional´s (BN) youngest candidate, Gerakan's Peggie Koo Pei Chee, 32, believes her youth and always being reachable to the locals will be an advantage when she contests the Batu Lanchang state seat in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Koo, a full-time politician who once worked as a teacher and medical representative, said she would give her best to regain the seat for BN.

Despite her young age, the former teacher who had served in Selangor said she had been active in Gerakan activities in the area since 2008.

"I know Batu Lanchang has been a grey area for BN for many years but as a young candidate, I hope the people will give me a chance to serve them as I m always reachable comparing to the previous assemblyman," she told Bernama after the announcement of the Penang BN candidates by state BN Chairman Teng Chang Yeow, here today.

She is expected to face Penang Island City Councillor Ong Ah Teong for the Batu Lanchang state seat after incumbent and State Tourism Development and Culture Committee chairman Danny Law Heng Kiang was dropped by the DAP.

Although Koo is from Sungai Petani, she had been staying in Penang since 2007 after she enrolled into University Sains Malaysia (USM) and her priority now was to look after her constituency with the majority of the residents being above 60-year-old.

"I have a plan to set a golden age club house in my constituency in order to offer a place for senior citizens in my area to mingle," she said.

Koo, who is single, took part in Gerakan activities since 2008 and became a party member in 2014.

Meanwhile, a newcomer for the Permatang Berangan state constituency from UMNO, Nor Hafizah Othman, 42, said her main objective was to turn the area into an educational hub besides improving the welfare of the constituents there.
