GE14: Orthopaedic specialist says man for the job in Bukit Pinang
ALOR SETAR, April 24 (Bernama) -- Young orthopaedic specialist Dr Mohammad Nawar Ariffin who has been nominated by Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) to be its candidate for the Bukit Pinang state seat in the 14th general election says he will push for educational excellence in the constituency.
He said that this was because education was the key for the progress of a race and country.
At just 42 years of age, he said he was the right role model for the constituents because he had "walked the road " not only in terms of education excellence but also in serving society through various organisations.
"It is time for the people of Bukit Pinang who all this while have been living in darkness because their elected representative is from the opposition to switch support to BN as only the coalition can bring about an era of excellence for Bukit Pinang, " he told Bernama after receiving the letter of offer for him to be the candidate for the seat from Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah at the menteri besar´s official residence here today.
Dr Mohammad Nawar is currently attached to a private hospital in Kota Damansara and is also the founder of the KL Free Children Hospital.
Born in Kampung Baru, Padang Tenusu, Pokok Sena, Kedah, the father of five, was National Youth ICon for three consecutive years from 2011, among the top 10 in the National Astronauts Programme and Youth head of the Silaturrahim Masjid Serantau/Sedunia forum.
The incumbent for the seat Wan Romani Wan Salim from PAS has been renominated by the party to defend the seat.
Meanwhile. the two MIC candidates picked by Kedah BN expressed confidence that they would wrest back the Bukit Selambau and Lunas state seats that were won by the opposition in GE13.
Kedah MIC chairman Datuk Jaspal Singh said he wanted to repay the trust placed in by Ahmad Bashah by winning the seat.
"BN and MIC will deliver the goods because the opposition failed to bring about positive changes in Bukit Selambau, " he said.
M.Thuraisingam, the head of Taman Selasih 2 Kulim MIC branch, said he had worked hard in serving the people of Lunas and would redouble his efforts if returned the mandate by them.
