Ge14: Mca Sec-gen: Will Continue To Assist Mca, Bn Candidates





IPOH, April 24 (Bernama) -- MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan who was dropped from the Barisan Nasional´s candidates list for the 14th general election said he will be going around the country to assist MCA´s and other BN component parties' candidates.

Ong, 64, who was International Trade and Industry Minister II and incumbent for the Tanjong

Malim parliementary seat, said he was informed by the party that he was not renominated for the seat.

"As such, I accept this decision made by the party and will not be running as a candidate in GE14.

"That being said, I will still be making rounds throughout the country in order to assist MCA and BN component parties in facing GE14 in my capacity as the Secretary-General of MCA, " he said in a statement here today.

Perak MCA chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, who is the incumbent for the Chenderiang state seat , will be contesting the Tanjong Malim parliamentary seat instead.

Meanwhile, Ong appealed to all of his supporters to continue supporting the candidates from MCA and BN component parties, in order to ensure their victory.

In GE13, Ong won the Tanjong Malim parliamentary seat for his second term. He beat PKR´s Tan Yee Kew with a majority of 4,328 votes

In GE12, Ong beat PKR´s Mohamad Azman Marjohan with a majority of 5,422 votes.

Ong was also assemblyman for Chenderiang for four terms, from 1986 till 1999.

In the 2004 general election, Ong moved to the Batu Gajah parliamentary seat but lost to DAP´s Fong Po Kuan.
