Star to contest 17 state, five parliamentary seats in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU, April 25 (Bernama) -- The Star party today announced that it will contest 17 state and five parliamentary seats in Sabah in the 14th general election (GE14).

Its president, Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, who is also Bingkor state seat incumbent, will be contesting the Tambunan state and Keningau parliamentary seats.

Jeffery is confident that he would be facing his brother, PBS president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, if the latter is chosen to defend the Keningau parliamentary and Tambunan state seats.

"I respect my brother's decision to retire. If he wishes to contest I will also respect his decision.

"Win or lose, it's up to the voters. Whatever happens, we are still brothers," he told reporters after the announcement on the party's candidates here.

Jeffrey said the party which is a member of Gabungan Sabah(GS) would contest under Star's ticket.

When asked about the notice of bankruptcy issued against him, Jeffrey said he was still eligible to contest because the court has yet to declare him a bankrupt.

"I was only given a notice and my lawyer has applied to set aside the court order (bankruptcy)," he said.

Jeffrey was issued a notice to settle RM480,408.50 to a businessman James Lee You Cheong within seven days from yesterday.
