BN Sarawak must win big to have louder voice
SIBU, April 25 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) needed to achieve a big victory in the 14th General Election (GE14) to ensure its voice could be heard louder by the federal government in order to regain the state's rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said this could be achieved if the voters in the state give their undivided support to the BN candidates in their constituencies in GE14.
"We must be united, If we are united, people will hear our voices," he said when speaking at the state level Community Chiefs Leadership and Development seminar 2018 (Sibu, Mukah and Kapit Divisions) here today.
He said in GE14, BN presented many new faces as one of the efforts to have the rights of Sarawak returned to the state.
Abang Johari, who is also state BN chairman, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is a leader who could be brought for discussions on the matter but the people in Sarawak must show they were united under BN.
He said the political situation in Sarawak at present was stable and there was only a 'storm in a teapot' among the BN component parties.
Meanwhile, he said state International Trade and E-Commerce Minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, who is also Bawang Assan assemblyman and UPP president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh would retire from politics after his term ends.
"His son Datuk Andrew Wong Kee Yew is the BN candidate in the Sibu parliamentary seat and has joined SUPP. I call on voters in Sibu to give their support to him in GE14," he added.
Sarawak BN is fielding candidates in all the 31 parliamentary seats in Sarawak in GE14. The Sarawak state election was held in 2016.
